This series is designed for all skill levels, each session offers a relaxed, immersive environment to explore drawing as a way of seeing. Our third and final session will focus on watercolor technique and brushwork. Remember to bring your sketchbook!

Join us for an afternoon of arts and crafts to kick off the school year in style!
Bring your own school supplies such as pencil pouches, notebooks and folders to decorate on Saturday, August 29th. The museum will provide stickers, patches, stamps and fabric markers for you to customize your supplies however you'd like.
Forget your supplies? No problem, a limited amount of notebooks and pencil pouches are available for purchase in our museum store!
Registration required and drop in anytime from 1:00-4:00pm, all ages welcome.

Join us for an afternoon of art-making, imagination, and discovery as we celebrate the power of creativity and the joy of making your mark.
Before they became two of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring transformed the streets of New York City into their first canvas. Using bold symbols, expressive lines, and distinctive imagery, they turned everyday public spaces into places of creativity and self-expression developing the visual language that would later define their celebrated careers.
Inspired by their artistic beginnings, families are invited to Make Your Mark, a hands-on experience in the Rubell Museum Garden. Discover the early work of Basquiat and Haring, then create your own original design on a miniature wooden fence panel, drawing inspiration from their fearless creativity while expressing your own unique artistic voice.

Juneteenth at the Rubell: Celebrating Black Artists in our Exhibitions

Join us this Juneteenth for a special guided tour at the Rubell Museum celebrating the work and legacy of Black artists shaping contemporary art today.
This focused exhibition tour highlights works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Bradford, Sylvia Snowden and other artists whose practices explore identity, history, material, and cultural expression across generations and geographies.
Through close looking and conversation, this program offers space to reflect on the enduring impact of Black artists within the Rubell collection and the broader cultural landscape, in honor of Juneteenth.
Artist Talk: In Conversation with Josh Kline

The Bas Fisher Invitational (BFI) and Rubell Museum is pleased to present a talk by internationally acclaimed artist Josh Kline at the Rubell Museum on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 4pm. The program will feature a presentation by Kline followed by an audience Q&A moderated by Naomi Fisher, artist and co-founder/director of BFI.
Known for immersive installations that address labor precarity, class inequity, climate crisis, and the social implications of emerging technologies, Kline’s work, which has been exhibited at the Rubell Museum since 2014, examines the conditions shaping contemporary life and the future of human survival.
Josh Kline currently has a solo exhibition at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, and is an artist in residence at STPI, Singapore. Recent major solo exhibitions include presentations at MOCA Los Angeles and The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
Naomi Fisher is an artist whose practice is rooted in feminist botanical knowledge and the ecosystems of South Florida. She co-founded Bas Fisher Invitational in 2004 and has directed the organization for over twenty years. For over two decades, BFI has developed artist-centered programming that engages urgent social, political, and economic issues affecting Miami’s cultural landscape.
Cyanotype Class in the Rubell Museum Garden

Join us for a special Family Day at the Rubell Museum, where art, nature, and creativity come together in a hands-on cyanotype workshop in the museum garden.
Using one of the earliest photographic processes, participants will create their own sun-printed artworks by arranging natural materials and objects on light-sensitive paper. As the Miami sun works its magic, watch your compositions transform into rich blue-and-white prints to take home.
Designed for families and all ages, this interactive program invites curiosity, experimentation, and a deeper connection to art through making. Each project will take approximately 30-40 minutes from start to finish.

Join us for a special off-site conversation with Alejandro Piñeiro Bello, former Artist-in-Residence at the Rubell Museum, as he reflects on his evolving practice and his new exhibition, Ecos, on view at KDR Gallery.
Drawing from the landscapes and cultural memory of Cuba and the Caribbean diaspora, Piñeiro Bello’s work moves between abstraction and figuration, exploring themes of transformation, materiality, and atmosphere.
Piñeiro Bello will be in conversation with our museum’s director, Juan Valadez. This intimate talk offers insight into the artist’s process, influences, and the ideas shaping Ecos.
Curating Miami: José Carlos Diaz in Conversation

Join us in conversation with José Carlos Diaz, the newly appointed Senior Director of Curatorial Affairs & Chief Curator at the Perez Art Museum Miami. Diaz reflects on the path that shaped his curatorial voice and the evolving role of museums in the city he now calls home.
Diaz is a specialist in modern and contemporary art with extensive experience in exhibition making, programming, and public art projects. Most recently, he worked at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) as the Susan Brotman deputy director for art.
Diaz’s position in Miami represents a homecoming of sorts—he previously held positions at The Bass Museum of Art, The Rubell Museum, and even PAMM when it was still known as Miami Art Museum. As chief curator at PAMM, Diaz plans to build on the museum’s role as a cultural anchor by developing visually striking, intellectually engaging, and widely accessible exhibitions that connect Miami’s local narratives to the broader global art conversation.
